Janet McCrorie

Janet McCrorie lives in East Lothian, Scotland. Her working life has revolved around teaching and creating arts and crafts. Janet studied painting with the Open College of the Arts and at Leith School of Art and has had two excellent mentors in Jacqueline Watt and Damian Callan.

"I paint Scottish dancers using mixed media, plotting out the familiar shapes by scraping and scratching vibrant colours across the painting, meeting the challenge of capturing the look of the tartan and the movement and exuberance of the dance."

Janet works from photographs, sketches and from life, attending Highland Dancing competitions, Scottish Country Dancing events and Ceilidhs all over Scotland. Her aim is to make the viewer smile and to induce a sense of nostalgia while putting a modern twist on the spectacle of these ancient traditional dances.

McCrorie's paintings have been used to illustrate the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society's Annual Review for 2011.
