The Paddle Steamer Waverley is the last sea going paddle steamer. She was built in 1946 and is listed in the British National Register of Historic Ships core collection as 'a vessel of pre-eminent national importance'.
Today, the PS Waverley is a great tourist attraction. She takes passengers on excursions, and can be used for private hire for Weddings and Corporate events. She can be seen sailing from Glasgow, on the Firth of Clyde to coastal towns such as Brodick, Rothesay, Largs or Greenock. In England, the Waverley sails on the Thames, the English south coast and the Bristol Channel.
This vintage art poster of PS Waverley heralds to the by-gone age when trips "Doon the Watter", were a regular escape for Glasgow working class folks, to take a day trip on a steamer to the sea side towns of the River Clyde and get away from City life for a wee while.
One of the great things to see on the Waverley is the engine room. Go below deck and watch the triple-expansion, three-crank diagonal steam engine, made by Rankin & Blackmore, Engineers, Eagle Foundry, in Greenock.
Plan your trip on the Waverley at Waverley Excusions and enjoy the experience.
