Two things we at Bay Attic remember from childhood visits are Mons Meg, a seige canon built in 1457, and the One O'Clock gun. The firing of the one o'clock gun has been a tradition since 1861, and was originally a time signal for ships in the port of Leith and the Firth of Forth.
The Castle is cared for by Historic Scotland who also look after historic monuments such as Stirling Castle, Linlithgow Palace, and Skara Brae to name but a few.
