Alex McQuade Biography.
Taken from Alex's own website.
With previous experience working in the Textile Industry and for the Laura Ashley Design Service Alex is now following her dream. By collating her experiences and love of beautiful new and vintage fabrics, embellishment and decoration she has created her own textile collection.
The Alex McQuade Textile Collection includes original hand-embroidered and free machine stitch designs. The range of textiles has been lovingly designed and created to adorn you and your home.
Inspiration for the collection comes from nature, the outdoors and the quirkiness of everyday life. Walks in the british countryside, tea at the farm shop and visits to steam fairs have all influenced the current range. A love for the vintage tractor sparked an interest in collecting rusty washer's, springs and nuts - the washers are now intricately sewn into the corsages adding a wonderful contrast to the luxurious fabrics and felts. Vintage tractors are the inspiration for the Ferguson, Little Deere, Tractor Wheel and Lillian's Lace Corsage Collections.
Alex graduated in 2006 from De Montfort University, Leicester with first class honours in Textile Design and now works from her Leicestershire studio. Important to Alex is the use of quality products from handmade felts; hand dyed antique lace, beautiful linens and cottons. She also embraces the idea of recycling and never throws anything away, deconstructing old items giving new life to buttons, lace, ribbons and old vintage fabrics is a real joy in the Alex McQuade studio.
Alex became a selected member of the Leicester Society of Artists in 2007 and exhibits with them twice a year at New Walk Musuem, Leicester. For more details about these events and others please see the events page.
